Consolidated Neighbors

Find new updates on our timeline!

This website is to share community concern about the lack of integrity with which Consolidated Mutual Water Company (CMWC) conducts its business. Because of this, Colorado wildlife is threatened, neighbors are being mistreated, and property around Maple Grove Reservoir is continually being mismanaged by CMWC.

Please join us in letting them know that our community cares for the wildlife and that we want to preserve the nature and beauty of our area.

The Consolidated Mutual Water Company has its annual shareholders meeting
on Thursday, May 11th, 2023.
All shareholders are welcome. There is little room for our voices to be heard,
so please be sure to attend.

If you’re unable to attend and you’d like for someone to be named proxy (other than having CMWC be your proxy on your behalf), please contact us at consolidatedneighbors@gmail.com.

Location: CMWC at 12700 W. 27th Avenue

February 2023 Updates

It’s all a matter of PR.

After our persistence, CMWC updated their website to center community and wildlife. Then, less than a week later, their representative said that they disagree with the Colorado Parks and Wildlife recommendations and wouldn’t adhere to them. Each time their representative speaks in public, he contradicts himself and makes promises he then quickly breaks.

“Shareholders” means nothing.

Despite significant attempts made by residents, Consolidated Mutual Water Company refused to have a facilitated mediation. This would have been a free service supported by the City of Lakewood, and the CMWC representative said nothing was going to change. With minimal accountability, we are asking all Coloradans to demand better from this utility company.

Forgiveness instead of permission.

With the latest happenings (see the bottom of our timeline for updates) this February 2023, CMWC has started unpermitted work once again. This time, it appears that they’re trying to raise the ground of the city property to support the eventual spear-tipped fence. Instead of improving communication and being environmentally minded, CMWC has taken steps 100% to the opposite. City of Lakewood has issued a stop work order as of February 9th.

Eagles, deer, and countless other wildlife have already been threatened by the actions of Consolidated Mutual Water Company.

Please sign our petition to let them know that our wildlife deserves to be protected. Then, please look at our site to understand other ways we can advocate for our wildlife to be safe.

A stag is seen alongside many other deer who are walking and grazing alongside the ditch that will soon entrap them rather than provide safe passage (per Colorado Parks and Wildlife).

Our requests:

  • Adhere to Colorado Parks and Wildlife concerns regarding wildlife-safe fencing and how to protect a wildlife corridor.
  • Use mediation to work with the neighborhood to determine how the project can be respectful of the animals and people of this community.
  • Have true shareholder and resident involvement. The only meeting was resident-organized. CMWC broke all of its promises from that meeting discontinued other community-partnered projects, and asked for key statements to be removed from minutes of that meeting.
  • Mitigate environmental impact and make reparations for damages to properties.
  • Have transparency with project plans and get approval from stakeholders (City of Lakewood, Rocky Mountain Ditch, shareholders, neighbors) about common area impact.
Here a red tail hawk is seen sitting on a fence looking at Maple Grove Reservoir the day after the trees were removed. Dozens of trees removed were 50-80 years old.
